MARKETS AND HISTORY IN COYOACAN
This food tour is a project that proposes enhance Mexican culture through street and market cuisine.
Coyoacán is a place of high cultural, historical, architectural and especially gastronomic interest. Mexico is a country where its cuisine is directly related to its history and that emanates day by day in its culture.
We can tell the inheritance of the pre-Hispanic era, the viceregal legacy and its transformation in the following centuries, through many dishes and customs and in the reinterpretation of all that past until today.
We find it interesting to strengthen these values to make them known not only to foreign visitors, but to the Mexican himself, who many times, for the sake of modernity, has uprooted himself from his own tradition. With a broad research task we want to offer an approach to culture from a fun and entertaining gastronomic perspective. Rumbos mean to contribute to the local economy and value the culture of the Coyoacán neighborhood and therefore of Mexico.

For this excursion, Clara arranged for us to have Rafa as a guide. We had already visited Coyoacan earlier on our trip, so Rafa customized our visit to our interests. We started by seeing the University Stadium with the Diego Rivera mural. We then walked under the road to the University to see the O’Gorman mosaics on the library as well as the Siqueros murals on the administration building. From there we went to the Museo de Arte Carillo Gil museum, which had a beautiful collection of contemporary art. We then walked over to the quaint town of San Angel, where we visited the Museo Casa del Risco, with its beautiful talavera fountain. Rafa arranged for us a hard-to-get reservation at the San Angel Inn, which was one of the best meals we had on our whole trip (get the caesar salad)! He knew some great boutiques for us to shop in, and finally took us to the airport for our flight home. We couldn’t be happier with Rafa (who also toured us earlier in the week at the Anthropology Museum), and we till highly recommend Rumbos Experiences to all our friends!
